DJing for Partners For Children South LA

Of all the Los Angeles corporate event DJs out there, Project For Children South LA chose me to DJ and MC their holiday party at the Earvin Magic Johnson Recreation Park, Rooms A and B on December 8, 2022. The following write-up is based on bilingual corporate DJ Track Star Staci’s super detailed outline for this non-profit community event.

 

THE MAGIC JOHNSON RECREATION PARK COCKTAIL HOUR & DINNER

While female corporate DJ Track Star Staci offers clients pre-curated background playlists to choose from, Project For Children South LA wanted me to sprinkle in some holiday tunes for the event.

• Crowd Demographics  ➔ 50% Hispanic, 50% black, ages 40-70 years, 99% female.
• Take Requests ➔ yes, at this Los Angeles corporate event DJ’s discretion
• Genres of Music ➔ variety of upbeat dance music to reflect the crowd demographic
• Swearing ➔ all clean
• Line/Group Dances ➔ yes please
• Do-Not-Play ➔ Kanye West, Chris Brown

FORMALITIES AT THIS NON-PROFIT COMMUNITY EVENT

To make the holiday raffle faster and easier, corporate event DJ Track Star Staci suggested announcing the names of the winners instead of reading a long series of numbers. The timeline looked like:

• 11:00 am ➔ register, background Christmas music with some non-holiday music
• 11:15 am ➔ welcome speech
• 11:30 am ➔ lunch served (buffet, dismiss 2 tables at a time)
• 12:30-1:30 pm ➔ activity tables open, dancing, photo station, dancing (open with the Payaso de Rodeo dance lesson then go straight into the Cha Cha Slide)
• 1:30-1:45 pm ➔ special presentation from staff > closing remarks > have everyone line-up to receive gifts (back to Christmas music)
• 2:00 pm ➔ event concludes

LOS ANGELES CORPORATE EVENT DJ SET-UP

Project For Children South LA opted for a custom set-up from DJ Track Star Staci, which included the following gear:

• One iconic Shure-55 microphone on a gooseneck stand
• 2x speakers
• Rane One DJ controller
• Allen & Heath sound mixer
• No lighting
