DJing the J.A. Urban Holiday Party in Glendale

Of all the Los Angeles corporate event DJs around, the construction company JA Urban chose me to DJ and MC their holiday party at the Vertigo Event Venue in Glendale on December 10, 2022. The following write-up is based on Los Angeles DJ Track Star Staci’s super detailed outline for this Vertigo Event Venue corporate party.

 

THE VERTIGO EVENT VENUE COCKTAIL HOUR & DINNER

While female corporate DJ Track Star Staci offers clients pre-curated background playlists to choose from, JA Urban wanted me to sprinkle in some holiday tunes as well.

• Crowd Demographics ➔ Mostly white/Hispanic. ages 20s-40s. Slightly more males.
• Take Requests ➔ only play requests from David and his wife, Keela
• Genres of Music ➔ variety of upbeat dance music
• Swearing ➔ R/X-rated is OK
• Do-Not-Play Songs ➔ anything country

 

FORMALITIES AT THIS GLENDALE CORPORATE EVENT

The detailed timeline for this Glendale corporate party looked like:

• 6:00 pm ➔ background music (move speaker out the door, cocktails outside)
• 7:00 pm ➔ ballroom doors open
• 7:20ish ➔ Dave’s walk-up music (Curtis Mayfield “Move On Up”)
• >>during card trick, wait for the cue “DJ charge the card” (“Star Wars Theme”)
• >>he’ll introduce the circus (15 minute performance)
• >>dinner
• 8:30 pm – slide show, employee awards
• >> “let me introduce my employees” ➔ cue to play “Dallas Theme”
• >>award winners come to stage, he says “DJ start the awards ceremony” ➔ cue to play “Star Wars Throne Room” (keep playing until all awards done)
• >>Dave will speak again (Jordyn tribute) ➔ her walk-up music is “Unstoppable,” Sia
• >>he’ll explain gift exchange then I go back to background music
• 9:30 pm – Cameron acapella performance, party motivators come in, pass out props
• >>dance music starts as soon as Cameron finishes “All I Want for Christmas Is You”
• 10:30 pm – party motivators leave
• May finish at midnight or may extend til 1am

JA Urban opted for a custom set-up from DJ Track Star Staci, which included the following gear:

• One iconic Shure-55 microphone on a gooseneck stand
• 4 speaker sound system
• Rane One DJ controller
• Allen & Heath sound mixer
• My unique dance floor lighting
