White Girl Playlist

Who better to reveal the top white girl anthems than a white girl? If you need a white girl playlist, remember to stay away from R Kelly and Chris Brown. It’s usually a safe bet to play artists of the same demographics as your audience (play black male artists to a crowd of predominantly black males, play a variety to a mixed crowd, play older music for an older crowd, etc). The same applies to white girls.

It’s also important to understand that white girls wanna cut loose and get a little crazy too (Yes, we know we can be tightly wound–it’s your job to help us relax and get loose). After a few drinks, I once had a suburban white mom (whose mini van was parked outside) celebrating her 40th birthday jump on top of a table and start twerking after I put on her request of 2 Live Crew’s “Hoochie Mama.” It’s really doesn’t get any more ratchet than that! White girls can get your party to that point if you play your cards right, but you have to wade through the Taylor Swift and Spice Girls before you reach that pinnacle of boozy bliss.

Remember white girls are often the first people out on the dance floor…if you keep the vibe right, the white girls will get your whole bar or club going. This is why every DJ should have a “white girl” playlist/crate (something the great DJ Nick Spinelli actually taught me!) Since most DJs are men, they tend to follow their own demographic and play too much “man music” for white girls. Yes, we love Drake and Lil Nas X too, but we’ll get your whole party going for you if you play “our music.”

Only 14% of the music played on the radio is by women. It’s not because women aren’t making music. It’s because DJs are overwhelmingly men. You need to make sure the music you are playing matches the demographic of the crowd for the most part (I recently watched my opening DJ at a bar downtown play for about 45 minutes. There were at least 4-5 bachelorette parties in the bar that night. He played two songs by women in 45 minutes.) Along with a “white girl” crate, you should also have a “diva” crate where you put all your music by female singers. Please do better than 14%, guys!!! That’s embarrassing. If you can’t play “Man, I Feel Like a Woman,” you’re part of the problem. Be part of the solution!
